Alder firewood is a hardwood but it is lighter and less dense than Ash, Oak and Hornbeam, very similar characteristics to Birch. It tends to burn quicker than Oak, Ash or Hornbeam but it is quick and easy to light with a high heat output and a bright and lively flame. For longevity you can mix with more denser woods and it's perfect for smaller wood burning stoves
